It took over six months after the first land-based sportsbook opened in Pennsylvania, but the first mobile sportsbook is now live in PA. On Tuesday, the SugarHouse Casino became the first in the state to begin offering mobile sports wagering when they held an 8-hour testing period from 4 PM to midnight.
The first day of testing will be followed by longer tests on Wednesday and Thursday. If all goes well, Pennsylvanians can begin placing bets 24/7 on PlaySugarHouse from anywhere in the state.
The sportsbook will be limited for the rest of the week by the following hours.
- May 28: 4 PM – 12 AM
- May 29: 2 PM – 12 AM
- May 30: 12 PM – 12 AM
Sports betting not easily accessible by everyone…yet
The launch of mobile sports betting has been highly anticipated given the accessibility it gives PA sports bettors. No longer will a sports bettor need to drive to a casino to place a bet. Sports bettors will now be able to place a sports bet from the comfort of home or wherever they happen to be in the state. It is this reason why online sports betting has been so popular in neighboring New Jersey, which has seen sportsbooks bring in over 70% of their revenue from online wagering.
However, not all bettors will have immediate easy access to betting lines. At launch, only web-based and Android devices were able to access the platform. Sportsbettors on iOS devices will have to wait a bit longer until the new app is approved in the iOS App Store. There is no current word on how long Apple users will need to wait before being able to download an app.
What’s available in the PlaySugarHouse PA online sportsbook?
At launch, the SugarHouse mobile sportsbook is offering a large selection of betting lines including for baseball and the NBA finals. As a general rule of thumb, any sort of wagering that can be done in the land-based sportsbook, will be available in the PlaySugarHouse mobile sportsbook. This will include wagers on the spread, moneyline, parlays and futures to name a few.
The SugarHouse New Jersey sportsbook offers betting lines on nearly a dozen different sports with a robust live in-play sports betting platform that allows bettors to wager while games are happening. It’s likely that we will see a similar in Pennsylvania.
With its opening before the official start of summer, the SugarHouse Casino sportsbook and other casinos will be well positioned to take bets by the time the NFL and college football seasons begin this fall.
